Mixer

Each track has the two knobs in the mixer section of the front panel:

  • volume sets the track volume.

  • send sets the amount of signal going to the send FX.

By default the values of the send and volume knobs are not stored/recalled in projects. This can be enabled with the following parameter in settings:

  • volume pickup enables/disables pickup behavior for all volume knobs.

  • send pickup enables/disables pickup behavior for all send knobs.

If pickup is enabled when a project is loaded, the knob position as stored in the project is used until the physical knob is set to the same position.

Mixing

Instead of mixing tracks using the volume knobs consider mixing using volume controls on audio effects such as Stereo while all volume knobs are set to the same position. This has the advantage that when playing multiple projects live you don’t need to remember the volume knob positions and can just set them all to the same position to get the same mix as prepared beforehand.

Another helpful parameter while mixing is Stereo’s low cut (high pass) filter, which can be used to reduce the bass frequencies on a track which frees up space for other tracks.

Output routing

The eight balanced line outputs of the PolyPulse however can also be used as individual outputs for each track, so an external mixer can be used or each part can be individually recorded and edited in a DAW.

By default each track has a Stereo audio effect which spreads all incoming voices in a stereo field. The routing parameter sets what channels are used as stereo output. When set to 1+2, channel/output 1 is used as left speaker, and channel/output 2 as right speaker. Using the routing parameter what track uses which outputs. If needed, two track can also share an output by simply setting the routing to the same value.

Send FX

In the track settings (edit+track) the send fx position can be set to:

  • post-fader: the loudness of the signal going to the send FX is scaled by the track volume.

  • pre-fader: the loudness of the signal is unaffected by the tracks volume so signal can still go to the send FX if volume is set fully closed.

The send FX destination can be set using send fx routing (in settings) to track 5 (default, signal is routed to the FX chain of track 5), output 1+2, output 3+4, output 5+6 or output 7+8.

Tip

To save CPU put audio effects such as reverb or delay on track 5 instead of putting them on multiple tracks. Set dry/wet to 100% and use the send knobs to set different amounts of effects for each track.

To use external audio effects as send:

  • Connect PolyPulses outputs 7 and 8 (or any other unused outputs) to an external audio effect.

  • Set send fx routing to output 7+8.

  • Connect the outputs of the external audio effect to the PolyPulse inputs 3 and 4.

  • Press settings and scroll to the routing section.

  • Set in 3 to out chan to 1 and in 4 to out chan to 2. The signal from the external audio effects is now added to the output FX chain at channel 1 and 2.

  • (optional) Adjust the volume of the audio effects using in 3 gain and in 4 gain.
