Sequencing and controlling external gear can be done with the External sound engine.

Playing notes

MIDI keyboards can be used to trigger notes on the PolyPulse. Each track can be configured to only listen to specific MIDI channels and note ranges. To setup triggering notes on a track:

  • Connect a MIDI controller to the MIDI input connector.

  • Press settings+track to open the tracks settings.

  • Scroll down to the MIDI section.

  • (optional) Set MIDI in channel to the channel your MIDI keyboard is sending notes on.

  • (optional) Set MIDI in lowest and/or MIDI in highest to only trigger notes on a specific part of the keyboard.

Tip

The MIDI in lowest and MIDI in highest can be used to setup a ‘split’ keyboard, where one part of the keyboard triggers notes on track A, and another part of the same keyboard triggers notes on track B.

Note

Note that (by design) the PolyPulse does not use MIDI note off messages and instead note length is based on the amplitude envelopes.

Adding notes to a note list

You can use both the PolyPulses internal keyboard and external MIDI keyboards to add notes to a the note list. To enable adding notes using a MIDI keyboard:

  • Connect a MIDI controller to the MIDI input connector.

  • Press settings to open the PolyPulse settings.

  • Scroll down to the note list section.

  • Set add notes w/ MIDI to true.

  • (optional) Set MIDI in channel to the channel your MIDI keyboard is sending notes.

Controlling parameters

MIDI controllers can be used to change parameters on the PolyPulse. You can map both MIDI CC messages and MIDI note messages to PolyPulse parameters.

  • Connect a MIDI controller to the MIDI input connector.

  • Hold down edit and then press the encoder of the parameter that you want to assign a mapping to.

  • Scroll down to add MIDI mapping and press yes.

  • Send a MIDI message to the PolyPulse by pressing a keyboard key or turning a knob or fader on your MIDI controller.

  • Press yes when the correct MIDI message is shown.

  • The parameter is now MIDI mapped and a small m appears next to parameter’s value to indicate it has a MIDI mapping.
